However, Total is high in protein, so youll probably find itll satisfy you for longer than some other pots.

The Eu Health Claims Law

Since 2007, European Regulation 1924/2006 demands that health food companies come up with the scientific evidence to back their labeling and advertising. Member states are asked to submit health claims from manufacturers who have to wait for the approval of the European Food Safety Authority . EFSA verifies all functional foods claims. Most of the time, EFSA rejects companies’ claims due to the lack of scientific evidence.

In 2010, following a stream of negative opinions from EFSA for other health claims, Dannon decided to withdraw claims on Activia.

About Activia Lactose Free

All Danone yogurts contain lactose, except for Activia Lactose-free yogurt. Yogurt is well tolerated by people with lactose intolerance. These people have difficulty absorbing the sugar found in milk, known as lactose, because they produce little or none of the lactase enzyme required to break down lactose into two sugars, thereby making it absorbable. The fermenting agents in yogurt contain this enzyme and pre-digest a part of the lactose. Furthermore, because of its thick texture, yogurt travels slowly through the digestive tract and therefore enters the intestine little by little, allowing for better absorption of the remaining lactose.

Researchers are studying the ability of beneficial micro-organisms or probiotics to treat a range of conditions from eczema to inflammatory bowel disease. And the idea that good bacteria are healthy for us is gaining traction.

But the science is tricky.

On one hand, scientists now know that some of the millions of microbes that populate our guts are beneficial. Its incredibly clear that these bacteria in our gut are not just innocent bystanders, hanging out, says Athos Bousvaros, a pediatric gastroenterologist at Harvard Medical School.

Beneficial bacteria help us digest food, make vitamins, even help protect us from harmful pathogens. Thats all totally real, Bousvaros says.

But its not clear which live micro-organisms, or probiotics, are helpful, says Bousvaros.

Lots of people have turned to yogurt, with the belief that the bacteria added to the milk as part of the fermentation process are helpful. And theres some evidence that yogurt affects digestion.

Many others are trying specialty yogurts or supplements made with specific strains of probiotics. There are hundreds of products on the market.

Most of have never been studied, says Kirsten Tillisch, a gastroenterologist at the University of California, Los Angeles. And they all contain all different kinds of strains of bacteria.

Benefit No : Yogurt May Reduce The Risk Of High Blood Pressure

One study, which followed more than 5,000 university graduates in Spain for about two years, found a link between dairy intake and risk of high blood pressure.

We observed a 50% reduction in the risk of developing high blood pressure among people eating 2-3 servings of low-fat dairy a day , compared with those without any intake, Alvaro Alonso, MD, PhD, a researcher in the department of epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health, says in an email interview.

Although most of the low-fat dairy consumed by the study subjects was as milk, Alvaro believes low-fat yogurt would likely have the same effect. Dutch researchers recently reported that higher dairy consumption was modestly linked to lower blood pressure in 2064 Dutch men and women ages 50 to 75.

When all was said and done, Activia was introduced into France by Groupe Danone in 1987. By 2013, Activia had gained entrance into five continents and over 70 countries all around the world.
