1. Plan a schedule and be organized

If your aim is to achieve a grade 7 in your IB Test then start attempting questions in a timed environment and then see if your answers are in accordance with the marking scheme. You can find the exact marking scheme from your school. In this way, you can learn how to exactly attempt questions in the exam without worrying how much you need to write.

Understand How Points Are Allotted

Understanding how points are allotted helps you decide how to handle those questions that you do not know the answers to.

For example, you do not lose marks for wrong answers in the AP exams. This means, if you do not know the answer to a question, it is better to guess rather than leave it blank. This way, you have a 50% chance of being right.

The IB exams, on the other hand, do not focus too much on multiple-choice questions. Their point scheme is also quite different. The maximum score you can get for each question is mentioned in the test itself. A good strategy for taking the IB exams is to first answer all questions that are worth higher points and then answer the lower point questions.

    Creating A Study Schedule

    The »Gemischtsprachige International Baccalaureate« (GIB)
  • 1 You likely know well in advance that you need to take the entrance exam and can register for it quite early. As soon as you register for the exam, mark your calendar or agenda so that you can plan out how much time you need to give yourself to prepare.
  • 2 Based on how much time you have until the exam, decide how much time you are going to give yourself to prepare. Most students take anywhere from 1-3 months to prepare in advance of the exam.
  • The amount of time you want to spend is highly individual. Think of your schedule leading up to the exam: Will there be any holidays? Does your family have any trips planned? What will your school schedule be like? Choose an amount of study time that can accommodate your schedule. Generally speaking, if you have a busier schedule, it would be best to give yourself more time to accommodate for any days that you are simply too busy to study.
  • 3Make a calendar or schedule of the months or weeks leading up to the exam. On this calendar you will mark all of the days you plan to study, as well as all of the days you plan to give yourself a break.
  • 4Note any days that you want to give yourself a break. Perhaps you decide that you want to give yourself one day off of studying per week, at least until the weeks immediately leading up to the exam. Somehow mark those days by writing “Day off” or “Rest day,” for example.XResearch source
  • Note how much time you plan to spend studying on each day leading up to the exam on your calendar.

Time Yourself When Taking Practice Tests

The AP and IB are both timed exams, which means just knowing the answers to the questions is not enough. You must also be able to write down all the answers within the time limits. If you know the answers to all questions but do not finish writing them down within the given time frame, you will end up losing points.

Going into the exam without having done this exercise is a mistake. Its especially a mistake if you tend to do most of your writing on the computer. You could find yourself struggling to maintain the speed necessary to complete the exam.
