Study: Virgin Coconut Oil Improves The Microbiome And Fights Diabetes
by Paul Fassa Health Impact News
A new study published in the journal Plant Foods for Human Nutrition on August 31, 2018, with the title Beneficial Effect of Virgin Coconut Oil on Alloxan-Induced Diabetes and Microbiota Composition in Rats adds further proof that virgin coconut oil is a powerful remedy for diabetes.
In this latest study, virgin coconut oil was shown to be beneficial to the microbiome by increasing probiotic bacteria, leading to better outcomes for those suffering with diabetes.
This new research confirms what many have reported to us over the past 15 plus years, that virgin coconut oil is beneficial in overcoming both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. See:
This new study offers a possible explanation as to how virgin coconut oil helps people with Type 1 diabetes without directly affecting insulin levels.
Health Benefits Of Coconut Yogurt Is It Really Healthiest
Is anyone of you a yogurt friend? I mean, I am the big fan of yogurt because it has many benefits. One of the significant benefits is that your body needs to have a healthy amount of good bacteria in the digestive tract, and many yogurts prepare by using good active bacteria. Yogurt is beneficial for our skin, our hairs, and our gut as well. Have you ever heard about the coconut yogurt?
Well, there are different types of yogurt available, but in this article, I will share the informative details on coconut yogurt.
Everyone is raving about coconut! Coconut oil, coconut water, and even cocowhip are all major draw cards for the health industry at the moment. The popularity of coconut doesnt end with hot-right-now coconut water. A variety of coconut-derived ingredientsfrom coconut oil to coconut flour and coconut milkare increasingly being used in home kitchens, restaurants, and packaged foods.
However, theres one product we will be particularly loving- coconut yogurt. So, lets start with what the coconut yogurt is?
We Begin To Digest Coconut Oilin The Mouth
The best part about coconut oil is that it contains fatty acids that naturally fight bacterial and fungal infection. Coconut oils antimicrobial activity is strongest once we break the oil down into its fatty acid building blocks. The great news is that this begins immediately in the mouth.
Ambur F., a fan of the , writes:
Fat digestion starts in the stomach but mainly occurs once in the small intestine, had I answered the question on my anatomy test last week with fat digestion starts in the mouth I would have gotten it marked wrong. Not sure where she got her information. Just passing on what my book and teacher both say on this subject.
While it is true that we mostly digest fat in the small intestine, there are actually lipase enzymes in the mouth.
These enzymes are called lingual lipase.
Lingual lipase was first discovered in 1973. It is released along with saliva. Recent reports tell us that it may help us detect how much fat is in food.
In fact, the presence of lingual lipase helps to explain why the ancient practice of oil pulling is so effective! When fat has been broken down in the mouth by lipase enzymes, the fatty acids released are extremely antimicrobial.

The Study And Its Findings
Researchers at the University of Belgrade in the Republic of Serbia gathered 24 Male Wister rats around 2.5 months old caged in pairs. All were fed standard commercial feed and tap water without rationing.
According to Fluoride Alert, only three percent of Serbias tap water is fluoridated. Regardless of the Belgrade labs tap water purity, the rats all drank the same tap water during the 16-week study.
The four experimental groups of six rats were categorized according to their dietary intake:
A small amount of saline water was subcutaneously administered to the rats on the first day only to allow comparability with the other experimental groups. The rats body mass, food, and water consumption were monitored continuously during the whole 16-week experiment.
Their blood glucose levels were measured after a 16-hour fasting period at the end of each week during the 16-week study.
Stool samples were taken from each pair of caged rats and frozen at minus 80 degrees C or minus 112 degrees F and saved for stool bacterial analysis.
This studys conclusion as extracted from its abstract:
The takeaway from this study is in the increased microbiome probiotic content from VCO . From the study text:
What Is Yeast Overgrowth And How Is It Related To Leaky Gut
Hippocrates said years and years ago that all disease begins in the gut and were finding more and more just how right he was. Your gut houses 70 percent of your immune system and of course the intestinal cells that break down food. Its where nutrients are absorbed and toxins are removed. Your gut is composed of about a tennis court worth of lining all scrunched together to soak up as many nutrients as possible.
Very simply, a yeast overgrowth happens when your bodys bad bacteria outnumbers its good. Candida, the most common fungus present in your mouth and gut, can be productive in small amounts, but when it is overgrown, it breaks through your intestinal wall and leaks into the bloodstream. When this happens, toxins that are supposed to be eliminated by the gut circle back into your system. This spillage of toxins into the blood is called leaky gut, and it is the root of many of our health problems.

Fermented Coconut Water Has Lots Of Health Benefits For The Body
Aside from the already present nutrients in coconut water, fermenting it reduces the sugar content in coconut water, thus making it an even healthier food to consume. It is also vegan-friendly especially if water kefir grains are used and not any dairy-based probiotic which comes from cow and goat milk. For people with lactose intolerance, it will be a great source of probiotics for them.
Fermented coconut water is indeed a must-try product. It is a novel functional food with promising possibilities in todays market.

It Can Be Dangerous To Use As A Personal Lubricant
Using coconut oil as lube is tempting for a lot of reasons, but can be dangerous if you arent careful. While its great that coconut oil is anti-bacterial, that also means it may have the potential to upset vaginal pH balance. According to Planned Parenthood, the research is inconclusive on whether coconut oil itself is a sexual health risk, but that additives and sugars can lead to yeast infections.
Moreover, its very important not to use oil-based lube if youre going to use a condom. This is perhaps the greatest danger of using coconut oil as a lubricant, becuase it can damage condoms and lead to breakage.
Immersion Of Bacteria In The Oil Carriers
Capsules were opened and their contents added to 2 mL tubes with 500 µL of each oil, and vortexed for 3 minutes. The control consisted of powder only. Petroleum jelly was melted by incubation in a heating block for 3 minutes prior to vortexing. Five replicates were used per oil per time point. Tubes were kept in the dark at a temperature of 20°C ± 2 and at a relative humidity of 50% ± 5.

How Much Coconut Oil Should I Use
How much coconut oil to give your dog is based on his size. A good starting dose is ¼ teaspoon daily for small dogs, up 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon daily for big dogs, says PetMD.
If you have an overweight dog, however, use less or use an alternative to coconut oil in order to avoid the side effect of weight gain because of its high fat content.
You can give your dog coconut oil spooned from the jar, put it in your dogs food at mealtime, or use it as a base for baking dog treats. You could even put it in a dog puzzle for some interactive fun that will keep your dog occupied.
Which Coconut Oil Is Best For Antibacterial Activity
As you are well aware, there are various types of coconut oil. Most people are aware of refined and unrefined oil, but there is less conversation around fractionated coconut oil. This is because it is largely used for skin and hair care.
In reality, though, fractionated coconut oil may have a greater antibacterial effect than any other kind of oil, including unrefined coconut oil. When tested against Pseudomonasaeruginosa, Staphylococcusaureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Propionibacterium acnes, hydrolyzed coconut oil had quite an impact against the strains.
It should be noted that traditional antibiotics were proven to be more effective than coconut oil in this case.
Another in vitro study found that hydrolyzed coconut oil had a beneficial impact against Salmonella typhi and Salmonella typhimurium. While the oil didnt kill off all the bacteria, researchers did notice that there were fewer colonies. As such, coconut oil may play a preventative role here.
Of course, it can be difficult to determine just how well the coconut oil will perform in real-world circumstances.
There is some evidence that virgin coconut oil has more medium fatty acid chains than refined coconut oil. While it may not have the same impact as the hydrolyzed version, it is still something that you can use in your food or for your skin and hair, if you choose.

Colostrum For Gut Health
Although immunity begins in the gut, there are several other important functions the development of a healthy gut contributes to, and this is especially obvious in the development of the gastrointestinal system of newborns.
Newborn mammals are born with leaky guts, and this includes human babies. Colostrum helps to seal these leaks and balance out the microbiome. It also has a very high concentration of nutrients relative to its volume. That means it is nutrient-dense so that the newborn doesnt need to consume large amounts or a variety of different foods in order to get the nutrients it needs for growth and health.
Bovine colostrum also contains lactoferrin. Lactoferrin binds to iron in the gut and keeps it away from bacteria. Many of the gram-negative bacteria in the gut need iron to survive, and so bovine colostrum can help with dysbiosis by keeping the iron away from the bad bacteria, giving the good bacteria a chance to balance out.
The theory is that if colostrum is safe and beneficial for newborns, its also safe and beneficial for adults suffering from leaky gut, dysbiosis, and those that have issues with absorption. There are also a few studies that corroborate this theory.
Microvilli provide more surface area in the gut, helping to increase absorption of nutrients from food, and when these microvilli get damaged, you get malabsorption. So, if youve been on strong pain medications, youll likely need to heal your microvilli and increase your absorption.
May Help Diabetes By Improving Cholesterol And Waist Circumference
The use of coconut oil for diabetes may be more helpful for some people than others. For example, in women with abdominal obesity, coconut oil had increases in good HDL and had a better LDL: HDL ratio .
They overall also had reductions in BMI and waist circumference. It is important to note that the comparing group received soybean oil the soybean oil group had worsened cholesterol parameters and did not have a reduction in waist circumference.
Weight loss was not different between the two groups.
In another study where people received virgin coconut oil, men had improved waist circumference but women did not .

Coconut Yogurt Versus Other Yogurts
The regular yogurt you’ll usually find in a supermarket is typically made from cow’s milk. However, this fermented product can be made from virtually any animal’s milk. Other popular animal-based yogurts are made from the milk of goats, sheep, camels, yaks and buffaloes.
More often than not, commercial yogurt products are sweetened and full of additives. You should always try to avoid sweetened yogurts, as they are typically unhealthy. Greek yogurt is known as one of the healthiest types of animal milk-based yogurts you can find in supermarkets. In 100 grams of Greek yogurt, you can find:
- 8 percent of the DV for calcium
- 11 percent of the DV for phosphorus
- 5 percent of the DV for zinc
- 18 percent of the DV for selenium
- 21 percent of the DV for vitamin B2
- 7 percent of the DV for vitamin B5
- 31 percent of the DV for vitamin B12
Greek yogurt has 9 grams of protein and 4 grams of carbohydrates, none of which come from fiber. It also has 5 grams of fat, half of which come from saturated fat. This means that its amount of saturated fat is actually similar to that of coconut yogurt. The average unsweetened yogurt, such as Greek yogurt, has less carbohydrate and more nutrients than the equivalent commercially produced coconut yogurt product. This makes it better at reducing blood glucose compared to plant-based products.
Cbd Oil Is Good For Gastrointestinal Issues
IBS or Irritable Bowl Syndrome affects about 10%-15% of the population and is a condition where the large intestine becomes irritated very easily, leading to abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea, etc. Foods & beverages like coffee, alcohol, high amounts of fiber and fructose are known to trigger symptoms along with many othersand even those without IBS can get diarrhea from too much of such.
Anti-inflammatory & Pain Reduction
One of the ways CBD can help is with its anti-inflammatory effects, which should help sooth and lessen pain/discomfort. According to Harvard Health CBD can inhibit both inflammatory and neuropathic pain, both of which can come from IBS.
A 2008 study from European Review for Medical and Pharmocological Sciences explains how CBD can decrease the intestinal motility induced by inflammationthus providing treatment for disorders of gastrointestinal motility, such as diarrhea. This likely comes from its ability to reduce inflammation in the intestines through the control of neuroimmune axix, as described in a 2011 study published in PLoS One.
Additionally, stress and anxiety can actually trigger flareups in people who suffer from IBS as well as diarrhea in those who are perfectly healthy.
This is another area where CBD can help, due to its ability to help balance the nervous system, calm the body and so on.
Yes, CBD Can Help, But It Depends On Your Situation
