When Can I Take Medicine During Pregnancy

If youre newly pregnant , you may want to rethink taking unnecessary over-the-counter drugs. The first 12 weeks of your pregnancy are a critical time for your baby in terms of organ development. Many doctors recommend avoiding all over-the-counter drugs during this time. Doing so can help to avoid birth defects and other serious problems that could arise from potentially harmful medications.

Most doctors agree that its safer to take over-the-counter medications during the second trimester. However, you should be aware that some medications could impact your babys nervous system or birth weight during this time. Taking medications after 28 weeks is also discouraged, because they can impact your baby after birth. The medications can cross into your babys system, and baby may not handle it the same way you do, leading to things like breathing difficulties. Always tell your doctor what medications you take and find out if that choice is appropriate during your pregnancy.

Foods To Avoid During Diarrhea

Dealing with diarrhea is hectic. However avoiding these foods will get rid of your symptoms sooner than you think.

  • Avoid eating dairy products when suffering diarrhea in early pregnancy. Consuming dairy products only worsens diarrhea. Dairy products contain sugar. Processing sugar will only lead to bloating and gas. Am sure you dont want that already!
  • Oily foods: Stay away from French fries and any other deep fried foods. These irritate your gut and can cause increased diarrhea.
  • Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits contain fiber that is not suitable for your digestion during diarrhea. Fiber takes a lot of time to digest, and this means a lot more discomfort for you, including constipation.
  • Carbonated drinks and caffeine: Caffeine has a diuretic effect meaning that it will cause dehydration which will only lead to serious complications. On the other hand, carbonated drinks add gas causing bloating.
  • All foods causing gas: Some foods such as beans and cabbage contain and produce gas. Avoid such foods from the first week of pregnancy until your gut starts to function well.

What Happens If Your Healthcare Provider Instructs You To Go To The Hospital

After you talk to your healthcare provider about your signs of premature labor, he or she might tell you to go to the hospital. Once you arrive:

  • Your pulse, blood pressure, and temperature will be checked.
  • A monitor will be placed on your abdomen to check the babys heart rate and evaluate uterine contractions.
  • Your cervix will be checked to see if it is opening.

If you are in premature labor, you might receive medicine to stop labor. If the labor has progressed and cannot be stopped, you might need to deliver your baby. If you are not in premature labor, you will be able to go home.

Are Stomach Pain And Cramps Normal In Early Pregnancy

Abdominal pain and discomfort can occur throughout pregnancy, according to the Cleveland Clinic. As your uterus grows, you may experience sharp, shooting pains on either side of the stomach.

In the second trimester, something called round ligament pain becomes more common , which causes a pulling sensation or cramps on either side of the uterus, according to the Cleveland Clinic. This is because there is a rope-like ligament, called the round ligament, on each side of the uterus. The uterus and round ligaments stretch as the fetus grows in the womb6. The pain and cramping may be particularly prevalent when a person coughs, laughs, or sneezes.

While abdominal pain, discomfort, and cramping are very normal during pregnancy, if pain is ever severe or persistent, call your doctor to rule out other potential causes.
