    However, if you have FODMAP intolerance, its best to avoid sugar alcohols, except for erythritol. This is to avoid worsening digestive symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, and flatulence.

    Depending on the age and preference of your child, there are a few ways to serve a smoothie that they may like.

    • A reusable pouch can be a great option for babies 7 months and older into toddlerhood.
    • You can also serve this to a baby on a spoon. For toddlers over about 18 months, you can try a small open cup with a straw.
    • You could also do a straw cup (you may need to thin the smoothie a little with water depending on the width of the straw.

    Let’s be real, constipation is basically the WORST. When you feel backed up, it can lead to bloating and lethargy, and you just don’t feel like yourself. And there are so many things that can cause constipation, which can leave you feeling confused about what to do next.

    “Constipation can be caused by a number of issues, but the most common causes are a low-fiber diet, dehydration and lack of exercise,” says NYC-based dietitian Natalie Rizzo, M.S., RD. “Fiber, water intake and exercise all help move stool along, so that you’re able to go to the bathroom,” she says. Fiber, specifically, adds bulk to the stool, and water is necessary to soften the stool, both of which make it easier to pass. And exercise helps move the stool move through the intestines.

    “By increasing your fiber intake through fruit, veggies, nuts, beans, seeds and whole grains, things should ‘get moving’ much better,” says Lauren Harris-Pincus, M.S., RDN, author of The Protein-Packed Breakfast Club.

    Diabetes Medication And Constipation

    Certain medications for diabetes and related conditions may cause constipation.

    A person should speak to a doctor if they suspect that a particular medication is causing their constipation. The doctor can confirm whether the medication is the cause, and they may be able to suggest alternative treatments or dosages if necessary.

    A person with diabetes may not need to see a doctor about constipation. They can first take several steps to try to treat their constipation at home. These include:

    • drinking more water
    • doing more exercise

    Gradually, these steps may naturally encourage bowel movements and help a person pass stool.

    In addition, it is important for people with diabetes to manage their blood sugar levels. A person with diabetes will be less likely to develop constipation if they can manage their blood sugar levels effectively and consistently. By doing this, they will also reduce their risk of having other symptoms and complications, including nerve damage.

    Occasional constipation is generally not a cause for concern. A person having trouble passing stool can try some natural and over-the-counter remedies before seeing a doctor.

    If at-home treatments are not working, or constipation lasts for longer than a few days, a person should see their doctor.

    If a person has blood in their stool or experiences other related symptoms, they should seek immediate medical attention.
