White Claw’s low-carb, low-calorie makeup and light fruity flavor may have attracted many health-conscious drinkers, but Everyday Health calls those values a “health halo,” stating that the drink is filled with empty calories that don’t support your health.;

“There are no real nutritional benefits from consumption of hard seltzer, as they are primarily just empty calories,” Mia Syn, a registered dietitian nutritionist in Charleston, S.C., told the website. Placing the drink into a category of “fun foods,” the nutritionist said consumption of the beverage is fine but should be kept “to a minimum” drinking it daily will only fill your body with empty calories. “They provide energy, but no other nutrition like vitamins and minerals,” she said.;

Judging the drink only in terms of calories and carbs or even by its lower alcohol content can be misleading, the expert added, saying that many consumers see it as a “free pass.” Syn said, “Someone could view this drink as healthy and ‘diet-friendly,’ which could lead to someone consuming more, increasing both the number of calories and quantity of alcohol.” So, if you want to drink White Claw every night, just know that you’re not doing your body any favors in terms of caloric intake.

Is 5% Alcohol A Lot

Originally Answered: Is 5 percent alcohol a lot ? No, thats about right for a slightly stronger than average beer. light beer is 3.5 percent alcohol . wine is 12 to 14 percent alcohol and hard liquor starts around 40% or 80 proof and goes up to 190 proof which is grain alcohol or more commonly known as moonshine.

Can You Drink A Lot And Still Be Skinny

The Simple Answer: Nope. The Longer answer: While drinking alcohol can fit into a healthy eating routine, theres one reality we just cant change: alcoholic drinks are just another source of extra calories. Theres no magic drink that we can easily burn off, because all alcohol is digested in the same way.

You’ll Be Healthier Drinking White Claw Instead Of Other Alcoholic Beverages

A lot of people bought White Claw last year simply because it was trending on social media. But market observers also think the beverage was a hit because it’s perceived as healthier than beer . The seltzer’s stats do compare favorably to beer’s 100 calories and two grams of carbohydrates per 12-ounce can, compared to 150 calories and 15 or more grams of carbs in a typical beer . White Claw is also both keto-friendly and gluten-free two claims most beer can’t boast.

On the other hand, White Claw have no nutritional value worth mentioning. Those 100 calories per can are empty calories, which means a White Claw should be considered a guilty pleasure, like dessert . People think carbonated beverages cause cavities because of the carbonic acid that results from forcing carbon dioxide gas into the beverage to make it bubbly. However, this is not so, according to Healthline.;

However, citric acid is added to a lot of carbonated beverages including White Claw as a flavor enhancer. Citric acid is strong enough to wear down tooth enamel, according to Healthline. If You Drink White Claw Every Night Your Teeth Could Rot

According to a study;published in the International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry in 2007, high pH levels found in sparkling water gives the bubbly drink greater erosive potential than orange juice. So what happens when that sparkling water is spiked? Orthodontist Heather Kunen, DDS, MS, told Real Simple;that White Claw “creates a more acidic oral environment and makes enamel more vulnerable to wear and attack by bacteria.”;

Kunen went on, “When it comes to the consumption of any alcoholic beverage, the biggest concerns I have as a dentist are related to the sugar content of the drink, as well as the dry-mouth side effect of the alcohol itself.” White Claw’s carbonation ” pH levels in the mouth” and can “hinder an ideal salivary flow,” Dr. Kunen explained, which makes teeth more vulnerable to cavities and other negative factors.

The best way to prevent possible teeth rot if you drink White Claw every night? Drink plenty of water drink a glass of water after every alcoholic beverage and then “rinse out your mouth with water after you have finished your drink.”

Good news hard seltzer lovers, Gorin says that if youre looking to drink something alcoholic, White Claw 70 is a great choice. Its low in calories, as well as in added sugars. Some cocktails can contain several hundred calories and lots of added sugar, so this is a much better choice than sipping on a frozen margarita, she says.

You should still sip them in moderation, though. The U.S. Dietary Guidelines recommend having no more than one drink per day for women and two for men. One drink is considered a 12-ounce beer, 5-ounce glass, of wine or 1.5-ounces of a distilled spirit, Gans says.

However, Gorin adds that it should be pretty easy to stay within these guidelines, even if you decide to sip the the more alcoholic version. White Claw beverages are 5% alcohol by volumeso for a 12-ounce drink, you get 0.6 ounces of alcohol, Gorin says. That means even if you have two of the 100-calorie drinks in one evening, youd be consuming 1.2 ounces of alcohol, 4 grams of sugar, and 200 caloriesnot bad!

Does It Hydrate You

Nonalcoholic seltzer is a refreshing drink that helps give your body the water it needs. Hard seltzer, on the other hand, doesnt do that job very well. In fact, no alcoholic beverage is a good choice for hydration. That’s because they actually take water out of your body by making you pee more often. Drink plenty of water when you’re having hard seltzers or any other type of alcohol.

Does Alcohol Make Swelling Worse

Swelling or bloating can happen when there’s too much fluid in your tissues. It’s most common in your feet, lower legs, hands and, sometimes, your face. Swelling is often caused by sitting too long, eating too much salt or by certain health conditions , according to the Cleveland Clinic.

For some people, especially with these other health conditions, drinking alcohol can make swelling worse.

According to New York-based , a registered dietitian with the Creedmoor Addiction Treatment Center, drinking alcohol can cause your body to become swollen because of an electrolyte imbalance.

“Drinking large amounts of alcohol increases sodium levels, which causes you to retain more fluid,” Miles says. “That excess sodium and fluid often accumulate in the tissues in your hands, feet and face.”

If your drinking is accompanied by snacking or a meal, that might lead to even greater swelling in your extremities, along with alcohol-related face changes. Miles says the following high-sodium foods will likely make swollen hands or a puffy face even worse:

While this may sound all doom and gloom, there are benefits of alcohol. Moderate alcohol consumption increases your HDL cholesterol, and studies show that people who have a couple of drinks each week live longer. So, here’s how drinking alcohol and weight loss can, in fact, work together:

Pay attention to serving size. When you drink, know your alcohol-serving size. A glass of wine is not a glass filled to the brim, but 5 oz .

Nix the mix. Minimize the calories from mixers. Make margaritas with real lime juice, use diet tonic water, or even naturally calorie-free club soda instead of regular tonic water and other high-calorie carbonated drinks. (These low-sugar margaritas;will satisfy your craving while minimizing your sugar consumption.

Think ahead. If you’re aggressively pursuing a weight loss goal, consider your schedule before popping open a post-work bottle of wine. Although it’s essential to treat yo-self, you might want to save that glass for, say, your BFF’s birthday dinner on Saturday night. This can help reduce drinks’ impact on your overall fat burning.

Get to know calorie counts. This does not mean you need to start calorie-counting But having an idea of the lowest calorie alcohol options can help you make smart choices before you sip and, in turn, keep to your weight-loss goal. Here, a few types of alcohol with the least calories per serving, according to the National Institutes of Health .

If You Drink White Claw Every Night You Could Cause Inflammation In Your Gut

If you drink White Claw every night, nutrition and fitness coach;Katie Boyd, MS, said you could be putting “unnecessary oxidative stress on your system and straining the delicate microbiome of the gut especially its good bacteria.”;

“Alcohol can also cause inflammatory responses throughout the entire body specifically the gut,” Boyd, a nutrition expert, told The List. She said that while White Claw is a;low-calorie alcoholic beverage touting only 100 calories per can, it should not be treated as a health drink. And if you’re drinking it every day, Boyd said that overconsumption;can cause “impairment, inflammation, dehydration and addiction.”

“Obviously drink with caution, but from 20 years in the health and wellness industry, cutting out alcohol all together is the best way to experience optimal health,” Boyd said. “If you want health and weight loss, cut out anything that causes inflammation.”

White Claw And Other Spiked Seltzer Is Popular But Is It Healthy

These boozy beverages have fewer carbs and calories than traditional mixed drinks, but that doesnt mean its healthy to binge on them.

Some alcoholic drinks have been given a so-called health halo. Vodka sodas are low in calories, red wine has;antioxidants, and straight-up tequila is many keto dieters shot of choice thanks to its low carb count. Now you can add spiked seltzers to this list.

Youve certainly seen these around, because theyve exploded in popularity this year. CNN reports that Nielsen data show hard seltzer sales exceeded $1 billion over the last year, ending in August 2019. Thats a 200 percent increase year over year. Theres no shortage of brands to choose from: White Claw, Bon & Viv, Truly, Nauti, Crook & Marker, Press, Arctic Summer even some well-known alcohol brands such as Smirnoff and Natural Light have their own lines of hard seltzer.

Does Spiked Seltzer Hydrate You

Most spiked seltzers have just three ingredients: water, alcohol and flavoring. Some brands have more ingredients, so check labels. White Claw Hard Seltzer only has these three ingredients, which is partly why its one of my favorite spiked seltzer brands. Due to the high water content and lower alcohol content, youre more likely to stay hydrated. I know I do.;

Not only does this help you feel better now, but it will also help in the morning. Dehydration can make a hangover worse. While I cant guarantee that you wont have a hangover after a few hard seltzers, it is likely that the hangover will be less severe than if youd been drinking wine. Ive yet to get a hangover from drinking equivalent amounts of hard seltzer to wine. However, its still important to reach for a bottle of water after youve been drinking to help your body recover from the intake of alcohol.
