How Do Fodmaps Trigger Symptoms Of Ibs
When consumed in foods and/or drinks, FODMAPs can be poorly absorbed in the small intestine and pass through to the large intestine, where two major events happen:
- The FODMAPs are readily fermented by bacteria in the large bowel, contributing to the production of gas.

But even if you feel great on the elimination phase, its not meant to be permanent. Its important to find out which foods you may be able to reintroduce and tolerate. A more moderate diet will be easier to maintain over time, and in nutrition, variety is always the best policy for getting all of your micronutrients.
Phases 2 & 3: The length of the reintroduction phase can vary depending on the individual, but the average time is about eight weeks. During this phase, youll stay on the low-FODMAP diet while reintroducing a high FODMAP food from each FODMAP category, one at a time. Between each test, youll spend a few days back on the strict elimination diet to avoid any crossover effects. What Are The Causes
Doctors don’t know yet. One theory is that the signals between the brain and intestines get disrupted. This miscommunication may trigger contractions in the intestinal muscles that result in cramping, pain, and changes in the speed of digestion.
