After struggling with Irritable Bowel Syndrome for over five years now, and trying every method I could to heal it, I think Ive finally found a permanent cure! Ive , and some of the tests, diets, and methods Ive tried. And Ive had a few periods of reduced symptoms that have lasted up to 3-4 weeks. But otherwise, its typically been diarrhea 2-3 times per week. Until now! For the past 6 weeks, I have been completely symptom-free. And thats with no special diets , no special pills , no special training, no special tools, and no purchase necessary just a simple exercise that takes 1-2 minutes per day.

Sound too good to be true? Thats what I thought too, which is why I brushed it aside the first time I heard about it. Its so incredibly simple that when I finally tried it and saw that it worked, I was floored! Well, floored and elated. But when I heard the science behind it, it made sense. I want to tell you the cure right now, and I will at the end of this post, but first I want to briefly talk about what IBS is, and what else Ive ruled out, so you can understand how this works.

Also, there are many types of IBS. Some lean more toward chronic diarrhea. Others to constipation. Others have both. If you experience these symptoms regularly, its important to rule out other diagnoses like parasites, food allergies, Crohns disease, ulcerative colitis, SIBO, etc., as the treatments may be different.

So, what is the secret?

Why Do Kids Get Ibs

No one really knows what causes IBS, but it tends to run in families.

Stress can affect kids with IBS too. Stress can speed up your colon and slow your stomach down. Stressful feelings also can be a trigger for IBS. Let’s say a kid has a big test at school the next day and really worries about it, that’s stress. Or if a kid’s parents argue a lot that’s stress too. A kid in this situation can learn to handle stress in other ways, so IBS symptoms will go away or at least be less severe.

What kids eat can also be a trigger. This can be different for each kid. For example:

  • A high-fat diet may bother some kids.
  • Sugary drinks may cause diarrhea in other kids.
  • For other kids, eating big meals and spicy foods might cause problems.

How Long Do Ibs Attacks Last

IBS flare-up duration is most typically from 2 to 4 days. After that, the symptoms can reduce or disappear completely.

However:

Some factors can make symptoms worse or longer-lasting.

These factors aggravate the disease, cause or worsen the flare-ups, and make the disease difficult to deal with.

Let’s take a quick look at the most common of those factors.

Goes without saying, but everybody is unique and this is a general overview. Exactly what goes on in your gut is snowflake-style special. Plus, if your symptoms persist, head to your GP to get checked out. The below is for illustrative purposes only and does not sub out for in-person medical advice.

Let’s start at the beginning. There are two main triggers for IBS: certain foods, or stress. So now, one of two things might be happening.

1. You’ve eaten, say, a butter bean stew, with lots of garlic and onion. Your food is making its way into the six metre long tube that is your small intestine.

2. You’ve barely slept, had to deliver a Zoom client presentation that went down badly and your fight or flight response has been triggered multiple times.

3. Work is crackers, you’re fighting with your partner and you throw a breakfast of beans-on-toast into the mix.

Next, a few things might be at play:

1.Your food is in your small intestine, which is where nutrients are absorbed from your gut into your blood to feed your cells and keep you functioning hunky dory. But wait! The trigger food is not well-absorbed and heads into your large intestine. Here, it draws extra fluid into your gut.

The upshot? All of this liquid can overwhelm your body’s ability to absorb even more, meaning you need to vacate your bowels, urgently.

Cramps, bloating, frequent dashes to the loo it’s all kicking off.

Who Is More Prone To Ibs

IBS is thought to affect up to 1 in 5 people at some point in their life. It can affect people of all ages, but it often occurs in those between 20 to 30 years of age. Statistically, it affects more women than men.

At the moment, more studies are being conducted on the connection between IBS and environmental factors, specifically, whether sudden environmental changes make us more vulnerable to this condition.

What Causes Ibs Diarrhea

IBS can cause a number of different symptoms, including diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, cramping, and gas. These symptoms can occur individually, together, or alternate. People whose primary IBS symptom is diarrhea a sudden, urgent need to have a bowel movement that results in loose and watery stools have what’s called diarrhea-predominant IBS, or IBS-D.

Doctors don’t understand what causes diarrhea to occur in IBS patients, but some people notice that diarrhea strikes when they feel stressed or anxious. Others notice a pattern of diarrhea following certain foods, like dairy.

“Generally need to see if there are any food triggers that aggravate diarrhea. If dairy products tend to aggravate or trigger their symptoms, they may have associated lactose intolerance, and so dairy products may need to be avoided,” says Norman Gilinsky, MD, a gastroenterologist and a professor of medicine in the division of digestive diseases at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio.

A growing body of evidence suggests FODMAPs, or fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols, may also be culprits. These foods result in an increased volume of liquid and gas in both the small and large intestine, leading to GI distress like abdominal pain, bloating, and gas. Avoiding foods high in FODMAPs can help relieve IBS symptoms.

How To Prevent An Attack

Understanding how to prevent an IBS attack can help you cope with this condition. Here are a few tips to reduce the frequency of an attack:

  • Increase physical activity to regulate intestinal contractions and ease constipation. Exercise for at least 30 minutes three days a week.
  • Eat at the same time every day to help regulate bowel function.
  • Keep a food journal to identify trigger foods.
  • Slowly increase your fiber intake to ease constipation. Too much fiber can cause diarrhea.
  • Try probiotics. Increasing the good bacteria in your digestive tract may relieve symptoms of IBS. Take probiotics as a supplement or eat yogurt containing probiotics.
  • Drink peppermint tea or take peppermint supplements to ease intestinal spasms.
  • Learn how to manage stress. Practice yoga, meditation, or mindfulness, or find enjoyable activities to minimize stress and anxiety.
  • Experiment with acupuncture. This alternative therapy might relieve IBS symptoms.
  • Consult a hypnotherapist and learn ways to relax your abdominal muscles. This may reduce symptoms of an IBS attack.
  • Change your pattern of thinking with cognitive behavioral therapy. This technique teaches you how to replace negative thought patterns with positive ones.

Do I Need To Visit Doctor If Ibs Last For Long

Some people who just suffered Irritable Bowel Syndrome usually are wondering about how long this Irritable Bowel Syndrome lasts. Then the symptoms usually will completely go away or will improve.

If the symptoms completely go away you may not need any treatment. But if the symptoms dont go after few days then you may see doctor to get treatment so that your Irritable Bowel Syndrome wont get worse.

Stop Going To Unsympathetic Doctors

Sadly, there are doctors out there who have terrible bedside manners. IBS is a functional disorder and some doctors have difficulty treating IBS patients with patience and empathy. However, the quality of the doctor-patient relationship may influence how well or poorly you feel.

Whenever possible, be an educated consumer and choose your doctor carefully. You might consider changing doctors if yours does any of the following:

  • Blames your symptoms only on psychological factors and stress
  • Treats you as if you are exaggerating your distress
  • Makes you feel like a drug addict because you are seeking pain relief

What Will The Doctor Do

Most kids get a stomachache, constipation, or diarrhea now and then. This doesn’t mean a kid has IBS.

But when a kid has these problems regularly, a doctor may think it could be IBS. Here are some questions the doctor might ask:

  • How often does the kid’s stomach hurt? Every week? Every 2 weeks? Every day? A kid with IBS will have a stomachache at least 12 weeks out of a year. That’s a lot!
  • What makes that pain go away? If the pain stops after the kid poops, there’s a good chance it’s IBS.
  • How often does the kid have to poop? With IBS, it could be more often or less often than usual.
  • Now the gross one: What does the poop look like? Sometimes kids notice that their poop looks different than usual. It may be a different color, slimier, or contain something that looks like mucus . That’s a real signal to the doctor that a kid might have IBS.
  • There is no test to diagnose IBS. Doctors often diagnose the problem just by listening to a person describe the symptoms. That’s why it’s really important for kids to talk with their parents and their doctor about their symptoms, even if it seems embarrassing.

  • Do what is important
  • Eliminate or reduce what is not important
  • Set Realistic Goals
  • Set goals within your power to accomplish
  • Break a larger goal into small manageable steps
  • Take the time to enjoy the success of reaching your goals
  • Know Your Rights with your Healthcare Provider
  • To be treated with respect
  • To ask questions and voice your opinions
  • To disagree as well as agree
  • To say no without guilt
  • Recognize and Accept Emotions
  • Mind and body are connected
  • Strong emotion affects pain
  • Relaxation
  • Stress lowers pain threshold and increases symptoms
  • Relaxation helps reclaim control over your body and reduces pain

  • Diverts attention from your symptoms
  • Increases your sense of control in life

  • With these steps your symptoms are no longer the center of your life

Pain dealing with the bowels arent something that most of us spend a lot of time talking about. Thats one of the reasons that you might not recognize the symptoms of IBS when they happen to you.

    Can Probiotics Help Sibo

    The research to date on the use of probiotics for SIBO is limited and has not yet shown a clear-cut benefit. It may be best to avoid taking a probiotic supplement until after you have completed your course of antibiotics. Your healthcare provider is in the best position to advise you as to whether or not you should be taking a probiotic supplement.

    Ibs Vs Ibd Are The Same Bowel Disease

    While both irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease can have similar symptoms including abdominal pain, diarrhea, and urgent bowel movements however, IBS is not the same as IBD.

    • IBD is a group of separate diseases that includes ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, and is a more severe condition.
    • Irritable bowel syndrome is considered a functional gastrointestinal disorder because there is abnormal bowel function. IBS is a group of symptoms and not a disease in itself, which is why its called a syndrome, and it is considered less serious than IBD.
    • Irritable bowel syndrome does not cause inflammation like inflammatory bowel disease, and it does not result in permanent damage to the intestines, intestinal bleeding, rectal bleeding, ulcers, or the harmful complications that are often seen with IBD.

    The fact that IBS is diagnosed after ruling out other diseases does not always lead to a strong feeling of confidence in the diagnosis. This uncertainty might lead you to be vigilant for any unusual physical symptoms that may indicate a more serious condition.

    A common practice is to compulsively check the color and appearance of each bowel movement. The problem with this is that bowel movements come in all sorts of sizes and colors without being indicative of serious disease. The one major exception to this is a concern about blood in the stool.
