Other than aflatoxin, there are even more nutty problems to worry about. Non-organic peanuts and peanut butters are also contaminated with pesticides. This is a concern because peanuts have a very light shell, which can easily leach to outside materials. Conventional peanuts have a very high pesticide rate, as well as other chemical contaminants.

How Does It Work

Some people believe that following the BRAT diet can provide several benefits for those with an upset stomach and diarrhea. The apparent benefits include:

  • Firmer stools. The foods in the diet are starchy and low in fiber, which may cause loose and runny stools to bind more easily.
  • Gentle on the stomach. The foods are low in fat and protein, meaning that they are unlikely to irritate the stomach and put stress on the digestive system.
  • Reduced nausea. Due to their bland flavor and lack of strong smells, BRAT foods do not tend to cause nausea or vomiting.

However, these foods do not have varied enough nutrients to warrant the long-term use of this diet.

Consider Eating Smaller Meals And Matching Food Groups Better

When trying to repair your leaky gut, attention to detail matters. Thats why even the more trivial ideas are worth trying out.

So with this idea Im basically suggesting

  • Eat 4-5 small meals a day, as opposed to 3 big ones. A day of eating would then look something like: green hulk shake , snack , small lunch , afternoon snack and dinner .
  • Combine food groups smartly. This is pretty easy when youre eating a leaky gut diet. i.e. the foods that are hard to combine are pretty much out. But just in case you are eating fruits , make sure they are eaten as much as possible by themselves or at least away from heavy protein meals.

Now with all of that said, it is worth noting that I am not completely sold on eating smaller meals and more often.

Thats because I do like the thinking behind 2-3 meals a day only, since this gives the digestive system plenty of time for breaks.

So like with all ideas on this list, it really comes down to personal experimentation and seeing what works best for your digestive system.

Are Peanuts Good For Ibs

Peanut intolerance is a special condition where you experience IBS symptoms or diarrhea every time you eat peanuts. It has nothing to do with the gastric condition but it is a permanent inability to digest to tolerate peanuts as food. When we eat any food, it needs to be broken down into simpler particles to be absorbed by the inner lining of the small intestine. Peanuts are rich in proteins and no protein can be digested unless it has been broken down into its constituent particles. If you are intolerant to peanuts, your body is unable to break down the proteins and thus these undigested proteins causes irritation in the inner lining of the intestine. It further leads to various types of digestive disorders such as diarrhoea, gas, abdominal pain, bloating etc. If you know that you are intolerant to peanuts, it is necessary to keep them away from your diet.

Keep It Fodmap Friendly

These low FODMAP peanut butter cookies are the perfect mix of sweet and savoury. Check out the notes below for tips on keeping this recipe FODMAP friendly.

First up, peanut butter. According to Monash University, peanut butter is low FODMAP in servings of 2 tbsp per sitting. Servings of 5.5 tbsp or more are high in the FODMAPs fructan and GOS.

We’ll be using 1 cup of peanut butter total, which works out to 16.6 g per serving. This is well within Monash’s recommended range.

Next up, butter. Even though butter is technically a dairy product, it doesn’t have any FODMAPs . Check the label for added milk ingredients like milk, cream, or milk solids, and you’re good to go.

We’ll also be using eggs. Since eggs are a protein, they don’t have any FODMAPs. So you can eat as many as you’d like without adding to your FODMAP load.

Next up, brown sugar and granulated sugar. There is a little confusion about whether sugars are low FODMAP, so let’s take a moment to set the record straight.

Sugar gets a bad wrap in some online communities because it contains fructose . If you’re in the elimination phase of the low FODMAP program, you’re trying to manage your intake of fructose on its own and fructose in excess of glucose .

Next up, flour. If you’re in the elimination phase of the low FODMAP program, you’ll need to use gluten-free flour. Make sure to check the label for other high FODMAP ingredients as well! Just because a product is free of one FODMAP doesn’t mean it’s free of them all.

Use The Ingredients Called For

While this recipe uses many typical ingredients, like butter, brown sugar and eggs, when baking you must pay attention to details to get the results as presented.

For instance, our baking recipes always call for unsalted butter. You might think that subbing in salted butter is an easy swap and that you could just reduce the salt in the recipe, but believe it or not salted butter and unsalted butter can contain different amounts of water and moisture. Also, salt, being a preservative, means that salted butter has a longer shelf life and might be older. Since we often use butter for a fresh dairy flavor, this would be contrary to that goal.
