What Role Does Cas Play

IB Learner Profile – Principled

The CAS experience is vital to maintaining a sense of balance throughout the IB program. It provides opportunities for self-determination and collaboration with others, while fostering a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment that students achieve from their work. CAS is also an essential counterbalance to the academic challenges of the DP, as it allows students to appreciate that a lot of learning takes place outside of the classroom and enables them to enhance their personal and interpersonal development through hands-on experience. All of this works to create a balanced individual who is confident in their ability to manage multiple tasks and knows when to take a break. As the opening quote from writer Gustave Flaubert illustrates, it is only by creating harmony in ones day-to-day life that a person is truly empowered to reach their full potential and be a force for positive change.

Mental Health And Realizing The Value Of Downtime

In addition to being an essential strategy for getting the most out of an IB education, maintaining balance is a cornerstone of overall well-being. Balance prevents stress, anxiety, and the adverse health effects which are caused by the two.

Of course, the IB curriculum does require that students make wise use of their time, but it also highlights the agency and decision-making power that each young person possesses. Common excuses for living an unbalanced lifestyle like Im too busy or Theres never enough time to do everything may be accurate, but the IB framework emphasizes that it is ultimately a matter of choices regarding how one spends their time.

The IB teaches students to fill their days with a multitude of experiences so that they do not feel scattered from neglecting important roles. Students feel most successful when they have managed to give each aspect of their life the necessary attention and have the space to express themselves intellectually and creatively.

Ib Learner Profile Series

Students in today’s interconnected world need to have an educational experience that goes beyond the acquisition of information. Instead, they need to truly become knowledgeable â which is distinctly different from having knowledge or understanding basic facts.

Knowledgeable students are able to identify and understand issues from both a global and local perspective. They must be given opportunities to learn about the world through the lenses of various disciplines. This multidisciplinary approach allows students to uncover their strengths, personalise their learning experience and learn to think critically as they solve problems in their daily lives.

What Makes a Student Knowledgeable?

According to the IB Learner Profile, a knowledgeable student is one who critically explores concepts that have both a local and global significance. As they explore these important ideas and issues, they begin to develop a broad range of knowledge across many disciplines, and they reach beyond the surface.

Another example of transdisciplinary learning is Maths Morning at OWIS, an annual event where students from Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary school explore the subject from the perspectives of different lenses – such as famous mathematicians over the ages, the Golden Ratio in Science, and the richness of data in Geography. At each age and grade level, students enjoyed different activities that appealed to their diverse learning styles and reinforced Maths concepts.

What Is The Ib Mission Statement For The Learner Profile

The learner profile is the IB mission statement translated into a set of learning outcomes for the 21st century. The ten aspirational qualities of the learner profile inspire and motivate the work of teachers, students and schools, providing a statement of the aims and values of the IB and a definition of what we mean by international-mindedness.

    One Who Manages Stress

It is not a little known fact that there can be a lot of stress while doing the IBDP program. We dedicated a separate blog in an attempt to quantify the amount of stress that one has to deal with. Stress management is an important aspect to define an IB student. With the multiple assessments and presentations, you need to be calm in your head and work your way through what seems like a never-ending pile of work to graduate IB. Acquiring this quality at such a young age sets you up for a successful life. The stress you experience in IB is nothing compared to what one faces in the real world.

If you are someone who has just graduated from the diploma program, make sure you are well aware of this quality of yours. However, if you are someone who is just about to begin their IB journey, then you should not be intimidated by the amount of coursework that you will be expected to do. All of IB is designed to make you a better individual and get you one step closer to success in life.
